To show them special compassion, I will dispel the darkness of ignorance that resides in their hearts with the bright lamp of knowledge.

Explanation Sri Vaitanya Mahaprabhu was in Benares chanting Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hari. Thousands of people followed him. At that time, when the chanting of Hari/Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare was being propagated in Benares, a famous scholar named Prakasananda Saraswati ridiculed Sri Caitanya as a sentimentalist. Sometimes, the Mayavada philosophers criticize the devotees. Because they think that devotees are mostly in the darkness of ignorance and are philosophically naive and sentimental. Actually, that is not true. There are many great scholars who have explained the philosophy of devotion. Even if a devotee does not get any benefit from their scriptures or from the guru, if he is engaged in devotional service, he will get help from Lord Krishna Himself from within his heart. Therefore, a devotee who is fully engaged in Krishna consciousness cannot become ignorant. His only qualification is to continue in devotional service in full Krishna consciousness.

The Mayavada philosophers think that a person cannot attain pure knowledge without discernment. They are given this answer by the Supreme Lord. Even if they do not have sufficient education or sufficient Vedic knowledge, those who are engaged in pure devotional service receive help from the Supreme Lord as stated in this verse.

The Lord is telling Arjuna that there is no way to understand the Supreme Truth, the Supreme Being, or God, through knowledge alone.

Because the Supreme Truth is so supreme that it is impossible to understand or attain Him by mere mental effort. Even if a person spends millions of years in imagination, if he is not a devotee, if he does not love the Supreme Truth, he will never understand Krishna (the Supreme Truth). Only through the force of devotion, the Supreme Truth, Krishna, is pleased and declares Himself in the heart of the pure devotee by His inconceivable power. The pure devotee has everything about Krishna within his heart. In the presence of the Sun-like Krishna, the darkness of ignorance disappears.
