Arjuna addressed him as “Govinda”. By this special 201 Youth

Om – what is the benefit; nah – for us; rajyana – kingdom; Govinda – O Krishna: kim – what; bhogaih – pleasure; jeevitana vā – life; yesam – whose; are – for; the desired is desired: sah – how; rajyam – kingdom; bhogaih – material enjoyment; facial pleasure; ca – also; all the gods; ime – these: avasthitah – standing; yudde – on the battlefield; pranan – lives; tyaktva – leaving; dhanani – wealth; ca – also; acharyah – teachers; pitarah – fathers; putrah – sons; tathā also; eva certainly; ca – also: pitamahah – grandfathers; matulah – maternal uncles; svashurah – maternal uncles; pautrah – grandchildren; syalah – nephews; sambandhinah – relatives; tatha – ate: etan – all these; hastum – to kill; na iccami – I do not want; ghnatah api – even if killed; tripolokya – the three worlds; rajyasya – the kingdom; hetoh – having obtained; kim nu – what is there to say; mahigithe – for the sake of the earth; nihatya – killing; dhartarastra – the sons of Dhritarashtra; sah – for us; ka – what; pritih – joy; syat – will arise; janardhana – o madhusudana – O destroyer of the honey (Krishna); api – O maintainer of all beings.

O Govinda! Of what use are those for whom we desire kingdom, happiness, and even life, when they are now standing on this battlefield? O Madhusudana! Why should I want to kill my teachers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, nephews, nieces, and other relatives, ready to sacrifice their lives and property, standing before me and wanting to kill me? O sustainer of all life! This earth

Even if I were to gain the three worlds by doing so, I am not ready to fight with them. What pleasure can we derive from killing the sons of Dhritarashtra?

Commentary: Since Lord Krishna is the object of supreme bliss for the cows and the senses,

e of the word, Krishna is indicating that Arjuna must know what satisfies his senses. But Govinda is not meant for our sense gratification. However, if we try to satisfy Govinda’s senses, our senses will also be satisfied without any effort. In the worldly sense, everyone wants his own sense gratification and thinks that God should give that satisfaction. But God gives sense gratification only to the extent that the living entities deserve it, but not as much as they ask for. However, when a person takes the opposite path, that is, when he tries to satisfy Govinda’s sense gratification without seeking his own sense gratification, all his desires are fulfilled by the grace of Govinda. Arjuna’s deep affection for his family and his clan is partly demonstrated here due to his natural compassion for them. That is why he was not ready for the war. Everyone wants to show his wealth to his relatives. But Arjuna was afraid that all his relatives would be killed in the battlefield, so he would not be able to share his wealth with them after victory. This is the normal calculation of worldly life. But spiritual life is different. Since a devotee wants to fulfill the desires of the Lord, if the Lord agrees, he can accept all the years for the service of that God; if the Lord does not agree, he should not touch even a speck. Arjuna did not want to kill his relatives. He thought that they should be killed, and if necessary, Krishna himself should kill them. Arjuna did not know at that moment that before he came to the battlefield, Lord Krishna had already killed them, and that he was only a tool in the hands of Lord Krishna. This truth will be revealed in the coming chapters. Arjuna, as a natural devotee of the Lord, did not want to take revenge on his evil acquaintances and brothers. But the Lord’s intention was to kill them all. A devotee never takes revenge on a wicked person. But the Lord does not tolerate any offense committed by a wicked person against a devotee. The Lord is concerned with His own affairs
