Tvam – You are the Self; Paramesvara – O God; Drashtum – to see; I wish to give; Te – Your form; Aishvaram – divine; Purushottama – O best of men.
O Purushottama! O Supreme Lord! Even though I see you here before me in your true state, as you yourself have described, I want to see how you entered this world. I want to see that form of you.
Purport: The Lord said that the world was created and continues to exist because He entered the material universe through His own representation. Arjuna was encouraged by the words of Lord Krishna. But in order to convince others in the future who might think that Lord Krishna was an ordinary person, he wanted to see the Lord in the universal form and see how He works from within it, even though He is separate from the universe. It is also very significant that Arjuna addressed the Lord as “Purushottama.” Since the Lord is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He Himself is with Arjuna. Therefore, He knows what Arjuna wants. The Lord can understand that he has no special desire to see Himself in the universal form. Because Arjuna is completely satisfied by seeing the Lord in His own form of Krishna. But God could also understand that Arjuna wanted to see the universal form only to convince others. Arjuna did not have any selfish desire to be confirmed. Lord Krishna also knew that Arjuna wanted to see the universal form only to establish a mark. Because there are going to be many impostors in the future who claim to be the incarnation of God. That is why people should be careful. Anyone who claims to be Krishna should be prepared to show the universal form to confirm his words to the people.
Protection; vahami – I will take; aham – I am.
But I will provide what I lack for those who meditate on my divine form and offer all my devotion with undivided devotion, and I will protect what they have.
PURPORT One who cannot live even for a moment without Krishna consciousness, whether it is hearing, chanting, singing, offering obeisances, serving the Lord’s plants, rendering other services, making friends, being fully engaged in devotional service to the Lord, cannot remain in the thought of Krishna twenty-four hours a day. All such activities are auspicious and full of spiritual power. They make the devotee perfect in self-realization. In that way, attaining the association of the Lord becomes his only desire. Such a devotee reaches the Lord without any doubt. This is called yoga. By the grace of the Lord, such a devotee never returns to this material state of existence, and welfare refers to the protection by the grace of the Lord. The Lord helps the devotee to attain Krishna consciousness through yoga. When he is fully in Krishna consciousness, the Lord protects him from falling into the painful conditioned life.
The devotee of the one God, the Lord, is devoted to Him. The sacrifice is performed by the Kauttya.
ye – whoever; api – also; anya – other; devatā – of the deities; bhaktāh – devotees; yajaste – those who worship; sraddhaya anvitah – with devotion; te – they; api – also; mam – me; eva – only; kausteya – O son of Kunti; yajanti – worship; avidhipurkkam – in the wrong way.
O son of Kunti! Those who are devoted to other gods and worship them with devotion are actually worshipping Me. But they do so in a wrong way.
Commentary: “People who are engaged in worshipping deities, even though they offer such worship indirectly, are not intelligent,” says Lord Krishna. For example, if a person does not water the roots of a tree but waters its leaves and branches, he is watering it without sufficient knowledge or without practicing
