Purport: The way in which a person changes his mind at the time of death is explained here. A person who leaves his body remembering Krishna at the end of his life attains the divine consciousness of that God. But it is not true that a person who remembers something other than Krishna also attains the same divine state. We should carefully observe this. How can a person die in the right state of mind? King Bharata, although a great sage, thought of a deer at the end of his life. That is why in his next birth he received the body of a deer. Although he could remember his past deeds in the form of a deer, he had to accept that animal body. However, thoughts about the end of life accumulate and influence a person’s thoughts at the time of death. In this way, this life prepares the next life. If a person lives in the mode of goodness in the present life and constantly remembers Krishna, it is possible to remember Krishna at the end of his life. It helps one in attaining the divine consciousness of Krishna. If a person becomes divinely attached to Krishna’s service, his next body will be divine (spiritual) and not material. Therefore, the best way to transform one’s consciousness at the end of life into a victorious one is to chant Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare | Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare.
