I first composed the Bhagavad-gita in its present 183

form. When this book was first printed, it was unfortunately reduced to less than four hundred pages, without any explanations or commentaries on many of the original verses of the Bhagavad-gita. In all my other books, such as the Bhagavad-gita and the Isha Upanishad, the method is to give the original verse, to which I have given the English form, the paraphrases, the meaning, and the commentary. This makes the book very authentic and scholarly and makes it easy to understand. That is why I was not happy when I had to reduce the original text. But later, when the need for the Bhagavad-gita in its original form increased, many scholars and devotees requested me to present it in its original form. Thus, this present effort is to present the original form of this great scripture with a complete and complete explanation, in order to further establish the Krishna consciousness movement and make it progress.

Because our Krishna consciousness movement is based on the Bhagavad-gita as it is, it is genuine, historically authentic, natural, and divine. It is gradually becoming a very popular movement all over the world, especially among the youth. It is also becoming more and more popular with the older generation. The elders are liking it. So much so that the fathers and grandfathers of our disciples are encouraging us by becoming life members of our great association, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Many parents used to come to Los Angeles to see me to express their gratitude for leading the Krishna consciousness movement all over the world. Some of them said that it was the great fortune of the Americans that I started the Krishna consciousness movement in America. But in fact, the founder of the movement was Lord Krishna Himself. Because it was started a long time ago and spread throughout human society through the Guru-Shishya tradition, and if I receive any respect in connection with it, it does not belong to me.
My eternal guru, Paramapujya Om Vishnupada Paramahamsa Parivrajakacharya 108 Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Maharaja Prabhupada alone belongs to him.

If I have any respect for this, it is only that I have attempted to interpret the Bhagavad Gita as it is, without any adulteration.

All the English Bhagavad Gita books before my Bhagavad Gita commentary were written to satisfy the selfish desires of some person. But our attempt to present the Bhagavad Gita as it is is to convey the work of the Supreme Lord, Lord Krishna. Our desire is to convey the will of Lord Krishna, not the will of some mental illusionist like a politician, philosopher or scientist. Because no matter how much knowledge they have, their knowledge of Lord Krishna is very little. When Lord Krishna says, “Manmanabhava madbhakto madyaji maam samaskuru,” we, like mere scholars, do not differentiate between Lord Krishna and the inner soul of Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna is Vurna. There is no difference between Krishna’s name, Krishna’s form, Krishna’s qualities and Krishna’s pastimes. In the tradition (in the disciple-disciple tradition), it is very difficult for a person who is not a devotee of Krishna to understand this complete position of Krishna. Usually, nominal scholars, politicians, philosophers, and Swamis write commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita without having complete knowledge of Krishna and try to drive Krishna away or kill Him. Such unauthentic commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita are known as Mayavada commentary. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has warned us about such unauthentic people. Sri Caitanya has clearly stated that one who tries to understand the Bhagavad Gita from the perspective of Mayavada makes a great mistake. The result of that mistake is that a disciple of the Bhagavad Gita, who has been misled, will certainly become deluded on the spiritual path and will not be able to reach the Bhagavad Drama.

Our sole purpose in presenting this Bhagavad Gita as it is is to lead the disciple towards the purpose for which Lord Krishna incarnates in this world in a single day of Lord Brahma, i.e. once in every 8,60,00,00,000 years. This purpose is stated in the Bhagavad Gita itself, and we should accept it as it is. Otherwise, there is no point in trying to understand the Bhagavad Gita and its speaker, Lord Krishna.
