To edit video in Canva, log in, open the Video tab, and select a Blank Video to give yourself complete creative control within an interface composed of a left-hand tool panel, a central preview canvas, and a bottom track area. You can import footage via the Uploads tab from your computer, cloud storage, or social media platforms,

with the ability to drag files directly into your workspace to begin cutting even while the background upload is still processing. Basic cutting is handled by moving the marker through your clips, right-clicking to split the footage around mistakes or pauses, deleting the unwanted takes, and dragging the clip boundaries for fine edge trimming.

Because Canva lacks a traditional multi-layer track system, B-roll is added by dropping secondary clips directly onto the main visual canvas rather than into the track area, where you can resize them, trim their length using the scissors tool, mute any unnecessary audio, and split the main sequence to clear the overlay when it needs to end without cutting off your primary voice track.

You can enhance the video visually by pulling typography from the Text panel, placing colored shapes behind titles to make them readable, and using the Animate tool to apply smooth motion effects. Smooth pacing can be achieved either by clicking the plus icon between clips to insert standard transitions like dissolves or by cropping and scaling split sections slightly to create seamless angle shifts that emulate a multi-camera shoot.

Background audio is easily integrated by dragging music beneath the footage and lowering its volume to around 20% to 30% so narration remains distinct. Finally, pre-made intros or end screens can be added from the templates library, and the finished project can be saved directly to your device by downloading it in MP4 format.
