O Govinda! Of what use are those for whom we desire kingdom, happiness, and even life, when they are now standing on this battlefield? O Madhusudana! Why should I want to kill my teachers, fathers, sons, grandfathers, uncles, nephews, nieces, and other relatives, ready to sacrifice their lives and property, standing before me and wanting to kill me? O sustainer of all life! This earth

Even if I were to gain the three worlds by doing so, I would not be prepared to fight them. What pleasure can we derive from killing the sons of Dhritarashtra?

Commentary: Since Lord Krishna is the object of supreme bliss for the cows and the senses,

Arjuna addressed him as “Govinda”. Through this special metaphor, Krishna is indicating that Arjuna must know what satisfies his senses. But Govinda is not meant for our sense gratification. However, if we try to satisfy Govinda’s senses, our senses will also be satisfied without any effort. In the worldly sense, everyone wants his own sense gratification and thinks that God should give that satisfaction. However, God gives sense gratification only to the extent that the living entities deserve it, but not as much as they ask for. However, when a person takes the opposite path, that is, when he tries to satisfy Govinda’s sense gratification without seeking his own sense gratification, all his desires are fulfilled by the grace of Govinda. Arjuna’s deep affection for his family and clan is partly shown here because of his natural compassion for them. That is why he did not prepare for war. Everyone wants to show off his wealth to his relatives. But Arjuna was afraid that since all his relatives would be killed in the battlefield, he would not be able to share his wealth with them after victory. The ordinary calculation of worldly life is like this. But spiritual life is different. Since a devotee wants to fulfill the desires of the Lord, if the Lord agrees, he can accept all the years for the service of that God; if the Lord does not agree, he should not touch even a speck. Arjuna did not want to kill his relatives. He thought that if it was necessary to kill them, Krishna himself should kill them. Arjuna did not know at that moment that Krishna had already killed them before they even entered the battlefield and that he was only a tool in Krishna’s hands. This truth is revealed in the coming chapters. As a natural devotee of the Lord, Arjuna did not want to take revenge on his evil acquaintances and brothers. But the Lord’s intention was to kill them all. A devotee never takes revenge on a wicked person. But the Lord does not tolerate any offense committed by the wicked against a devotee. The Lord

If we kill such wicked people, we will incur sin. Therefore, it is not right for us to kill our own sons and relatives. O Goddess Lakshmi! What benefit do we get from killing our relatives, and what happiness can we get?

Commentary: According to the Vedas, there are six types of evildoers. They are: 1) one who commits arson, 2) one who sets fire to a house, 3) one who attacks with deadly weapons, 4) one who plunders wealth, 5) one who encroaches on another’s land, 6)

He who takes captives. Such wicked people should be killed immediately. Such wicked people do not have any sin. Killing such wicked people is a task befitting even an ordinary person. Arjuna was not an ordinary person. Since he was a saintly person, he wanted to act with utmost saintliness. However, such behavior is not related to a Kshatriya. A responsible person who rules a kingdom should be a saintly person, but he should not be cowardly. For example, Shri Ram was such a saintly person that people would want to live in this kingdom of Rama. But Rama never showed cowardice. When Ravana captured Sita and behaved cruelly towards Rama, then Shri Ram taught him a lesson in a way that is unparalleled in the
