bahalaṇam many, janma naam- of continuous birth and death; ane- then the one who is in perfect knowledge; maam- me: prapadyate vasudevaḥ- the god of gods, Lord Krishna; sarvam- everything; iti such; mahatma mahatma; sudurlabhaḥ- rarely seen.

He who is truly wise, after many births and deaths, recognizes Me as the cause of all events and as the all-being, and takes refuge in Me. The great soul is the most difficult to attain.

PURPORT When a living entity is engaged in devotional service, that is, in many and many divine practices, the Supreme Personality of Godhead is truly situated in the pure divine knowledge of the highest spiritual experience. In the beginning of spiritual experience, when a person tries to give up his material attachment, he shows some inclination towards formlessness. But when he progresses further, he understands that there are activities in spiritual life, and that those activities are devotional yoga. Having experienced this, he becomes attracted to the Lord and takes refuge in Him. At that time, a person understands that the grace of Lord Krishna is everything, that He is the cause of all causes, and that this material world is not independent of him. He experiences that the material world is an artificial reflection of the spiritual diversity, and that in everything there is a relationship with the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Krishna. Thus he thinks of everything in relation to Vasudeva, that is, Lord Krishna. Such a universal vision of Vasudeva leads to complete surrender to the supreme goal, Lord Krishna. Such surrendered great souls are rare.
