The material body of a living being, who is indestructible, unlimited, and eternal, is bound to perish. Therefore, O Bharata, fight!

Purport: By nature, the material body is perishable. It may perish immediately or it may perish after a hundred years. This is only a matter of time. It cannot be sustained indefinitely. But the soul is so subtle that it cannot be seen by the enemy, and there is no need to say that it cannot be killed. As stated in the previous verse, it is so subtle that no one knows how to measure its size. Therefore, from these two angles, there is no reason for sorrow. Because the living entity is neither killed nor does the material body last for any length of time, nor is it saved forever. Since the soul, which is the divine substance, obtains this material body according to its karma, it must take up religious practice. Because it is a part of the divine light, the living entity has qualified as light in the Vedanta sutras. Just as the sunlight nourishes the entire universe, this light of the soul nourishes the material body. As soon as the soul leaves this physical body, the body begins to decompose. Therefore, the soul is what sustains this body. The body alone is not important. Arjuna is advised here to fight and not to abandon dharma for worldly bodily desires.

Kayena–with the body; manasa–with the mind; buddhya–with the intelligence; kevalaih–pure; api–also; yoginah–persons in Krishna consciousness, karma–work; kurvani–do; sabdam–association; tyaktva–leaving, arma–for purification; suddhaye–for purification.

Yogis work with their body, mind, intellect, and senses, with the sole intention of purifying themselves, leaving society behind.

PURPORT When a person works in Krishna consciousness for the pleasure of the senses, any work done with the body, mind, intelligence or senses is free from material attachment. There is no material fruition from the work done by a person in Krishna consciousness. Therefore, the pure activities, which are generally called good works, are easily performed by practicing Krishna consciousness. This is explained by Srila Rupa Gosvami in his Bhakti-rasamrita Sindhu (1.2.187) as follows:

This is the state of mind,

“A person engaged in Krishna consciousness with body, mind, intelligence and speech (i.e., one who is engaged in Krishna service) is a liberated person even in the material world, even though he may be engaged in many material activities.” He has no false ego. Because he does not think that he is this material body or that the body is his. He knows that this body is not himself, that this body does not belong to him. He himself belongs to Krishna, and the body also belongs to Krishna. When everything that is produced from the body, mind, intelligence, speech, life, wealth, etc., that is, everything that he has, is used for Krishna service, he immediately becomes one with Krishna. He is one with Krishna, free from the false ego that leads to the idea that he is the body, etc. This is the perfect state of Krishna consciousness.

वस्त वीदीविदी; शांति आयुक्तह – because of;

The light of steadfast devotion is not greed.

Explanation = First of all, one who is interested in something, is certain that the absolute devotion to the Supreme Lord Krishna, the Supreme Truth, is the secret of existence.
